Why choose geothermal heating and cooling?

Cost of operation

The main reason you should choose geothermal heating and cooling is geothermal heating and cooling has the lowest cost of operation of any system available, period. Against LP gas and standard A/C, the difference is almost unbelievable. But it is real. A 2000 SF Ft. home in our area can be heated and cooled for less than $300 per year saving at least $1000 per year in operating costs. This is real. Thousands are doing it right now.
Environmentally friendly

But some persons are more concerned about the environment. All gas furnaces produce carbon dioxide, a common, non poisonous gas. But carbon dioxide is also considered a major "greenhouse" gas contributing to the phenomenon we call "Global Warming". Geothermal systems have zero gaseous emissions and are completely non-polluting. The energy they use is naturally occurring energy. All the machines do is make that energy useful. That is why the DOE and the EPA have awarded geothermal systems the "Energy Star" for reducing energy usage and protecting the environment at the same time. Water based systems use the energy in the water and do not change the water quality or chemistry. And contrary to some beliefs, they do not deplete ground water supplies! DX systems do not affect the environment in any way, they just use a series of buried copper tubes that absorb and release heat.

Safety

Others are more concerned about safety and comfort. A geothermal unit has no open flame. It will not cause someone's house to burn down or allow a dangerous leak of explosive gasses to occur that could ignite and explode the building. This has happened in our area this past year killing several persons, destroying property and ruining the lives of those who survived. Geothermal is the safest way to heat and cool a home in our area.
Comfort

The comfort of a properly installed geothermal system rivals a hot water system for that "even" and "cozy" feeling. Many fossil fuel fired systems have a wide temperature swing because of their high discharge temperatures and their frequent on and off cycles. A properly designed geothermal system will become more comfortable the colder it gets because the systems are designed to run longer as it gets colder and provide a more constant flow of warm, not hot, air to your living space.

Resale value

It has been found that a home heated and cooled with a geothermal system is recognized by potential buyers as have a greater degree of "quality" than homes with conventional gas furnaces and air conditioners. Potential buyers believe that the original builders of the home paid more attention to detail, the cost of living in the home and the comfort of living in the home than the typical new home builder. The home is seen as a better value by prospective home buyers and often sells faster and closer to the asking price.
